When Creativity Starts Getting Limited by Geography
When Creativity Starts Getting Limited by Geography
India became powerful not because every region stayed inside its own identity, but because people slowly learned to admire cultures far beyond the places they were born in.
Growing up, I kept hearing about different crafts, textiles, foods, art forms, traditions, and cultural practices from different parts of India, but I never emotionally separated them as “their culture” and “our culture” because somewhere in my mind, all of it simply felt Indian.
A weave from one state, a craft from another region, a festival celebrated somewhere far away, or even a traditional game I had never personally played still felt familiar to me because I never looked at India as disconnected regions existing separately from one another.
Perhaps that is why I sometimes feel surprised when I see how strongly professional ecosystems are still influenced by geography, language, regional familiarity, and comfort zones.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with regional pride because regional cultures preserve traditions, create local opportunities, and keep communities alive, but somewhere I also feel that professional growth becomes much more powerful when opportunities move freely beyond regional circles.
People naturally connect faster with what feels familiar to them, and that is human nature, but creativity, talent, ambition, and good ideas rarely belong to only one geography.
Even while building YELLOW BLOOM, I never consciously thought about designing for one particular state or region because comfort, softness, aesthetics, and the desire to feel confident at home are emotions that belong to women everywhere.
Some of the strongest Indian brands today are growing because they are emotionally connected to the entire country and not limited to only one part of it.
And maybe that is the real beauty of India, not just that we come from different places, but that we slowly learn to feel connected to places where we were never born.
