From Runway to Retail

From Runway to Retail
I was trained to create. I had to learn how to sell.

I started on the runway, where my focus was on design, details, and creating something that felt complete in itself, but over time I found myself thinking less about the perfect piece and more about whether it would sell, scale, and sustain a business beyond a single moment.
The shift from building Zeal by Shubhra to growing YELLOW BLOOM has not been about changing industries, but about changing mindset, because what works on the runway does not necessarily work in retail. I once believed that strong design would naturally find its audience, but I learned that without distribution, visibility, and consistency, even the best products remain unnoticed. Earlier, I invested my energy in creating collections that expressed a point of view, whereas today I focus on building systems that ensure products move, customers return, and the business grows steadily.
With Yellow Bloom, this became clearer with scale, as selling over 300 pieces a month is not driven by one standout design but by a structure that works every single day, from understanding which products convert better on marketplaces to why customers trust the website more, and how operational decisions quietly shape the brand. The focus has moved from appreciation to performance, from intuition alone to a balance between instinct and data, and from creating something new each time to creating something that works repeatedly.
Looking back, I realize I have not left the runway behind, but I no longer stand on it in the same way, because building a brand demands a different kind of discipline where creativity still matters, but clarity matters more. The journey from Zeal to Yellow Bloom has been about evolving from a creator into a builder, where success is not defined by what you make once, but by what you can consistently make work.
